Arne Monson, President and Co-founder

As the president and co-founder of Holtmeyer & Monson, Arne Monson has led a company that has been helping community banks meet the SBA lending needs of their customers since 1982. Arne is a recognized authority on SBA lending and his opinions, knowledge and input are frequently requested by the Small Business Administration, Congressional bodies and regulatory agencies.

He has nine years of experience in commercial banking and 27 years in small business financial management and consulting. A Certified Management Accountant, Arne has served as a member of the Lender Service Provider Committee of the National Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders.

He has a BA in business finance, an MBA in business finance from Pepperdine University, and a Master’s Degree in business administration from Minnesota State University. Arne lives in Memphis, is a dedicated runner, and loves to work at perfecting his golf game (even more than it already is) every chance he gets.

Penny Newbauer, Executive Vice President and National Servicing Manager

Penny Newbauer’s experience with all things SBA lending began a good deal prior to her joining Holtmeyer & Monson over 15 years ago. She came to us after working in and then managing an SBA lending department for 10 years. Penny manages the portfolio of SBA 7(a) and USDA loans serviced by H&M. These responsibilities include Form 1502 reporting on behalf of our customers and handling servicing requests. In addition, Penny sets up the processes by which reporting and servicing are fulfilled for all new clients.

Penny lives in St Paul, Minnesota, but is a transplanted South Dakotan who loves returning to the wide, open spaces of her beloved home state. In her spare time, she enjoys genealogy researching and antique hunting with her husband, John. The couple has one child, a beautiful daughter.

Penny earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in business/economics from the University of Minnesota, Morris.

Dustin Powell, Executive Vice President

Dustin joined Holtmeyer & Monson in 2014, helping both banks and their small business customers obtain new financing. He develops banking relationships with H&M clients in his home base of Wisconsin as well as Massachusetts, New Jersey, Nebraska, Minnesota, North Carolina, Maryland and West Virginia. Dustin also serves as Holtmeyer & Monson’s guaranty claims expert.

A former credit analyst and commercial lender, Dustin has more than 12 years of experience in the financial services industry. A graduate of The University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, he holds a degree in sports management and business administration.

He is the proud (and active!) father of three children ranging in age from nine years to 12 months, yet Dustin still finds time for volunteering on civic boards, coaching youth and high school sports, hunting and golfing.

Jennifer (Jenny) Scully, Senior Vice President

Jenny joined the Holtmeyer & Monson team in 2021, fulfilling a hybrid role to support clients originating and servicing SBA 7(a) loans.

During her more than 35 years of community banking experience, Jenny has served in various business development, commercial lending and leadership positions for institutions in Delaware and Maryland.  She brings over 20 years of close involvement in SBA lending, which includes leading the banks’ start-up or restart of SBA lending. These responsibilities required her to provide training and ongoing support to loan officers as well as the loan operations staff charged with originating and servicing SBA loans. For the five years previous to joining H&M, Jenny was responsible for commercial banking administration, constantly improving workflows, efficiencies and teamwork throughout the organization to deliver an extraordinary client experience.

Jenny and her husband enjoy life in Rising Sun, Maryland as transplants to the area from Delaware and Michigan, respectively. She spends her free time with her three children, two grandchildren and a large family who often gather for the Sunday dinners she cooks. Active members of their community, Jenny and her husband volunteer time to special community events and serve on civic boards.

Josh Miller, Senior Vice President

Josh joined Holtmeyer & Monson in 2011, applying over 20 years of experience in the financial services and banking industry. From his office in Las Vegas, Josh develops bank relationships and serves clients in the states of Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Josh brings H&M valuable industry knowledge he gained over a career that has included positions ranging from commercial lender and mortgage lender to staff accountant and asset liability analyst.

As might be expected, Josh holds a degree in accounting, which he earned at The University of Memphis. He has three children, ages 21, 20 and 17 and spends his free time traveling. (It should be noted that he is a frequent and enthusiastic attendee at concerts and sporting events.)

Mike Taylor, Vice President

Mike became part of the Holtmeyer & Monson team in 2021, and our clients have benefited from his extensive knowledge of the SBA’s 7(a) and 504 lending programs, as well as the USDA’s Business & Industry Guaranteed Loan Program, ever since.

Prior to joining H&M, Mike cultivated 25 years of SBA/USDA lending expertise as a loan officer with an Arkansas Certified Development Company and as a business development officer for multiple lenders with a national lending platform.

Mike is based in Arkansas where he enjoys venturing outdoors for all kinds of activities, including time relaxing at the lake and trail riding. He graduated from Arkansas State University where he received a BS degree in finance.

Tyler Anderson, Vice President

Tyler has been a key member of the Holtmeyer & Monson team since July 2017. On any given day, he can be found assisting clients in structuring, underwriting and submitting SBA and USDA loan application packages.

Before joining H&M, he spent nine years in the banking industry primarily focused on credit underwriting and small business lending, but engaging in other functions as well. Now all of that experience serves to benefit our lending partners and their communities’ small businesses.

Tyler attended the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in finance. An avid outdoorsman, Tyler resides in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, where he enjoys golfing, fishing and camping.

Curtis B. Lee, Quality Control Manager

Curtis Lee ensures the full and correct preparation of small business loans on behalf of our customers, and sees that Holtmeyer & Monson maintains strict compliance with the lending policies and procedures of the Small Business Administration.

Before joining H&M as our Quality Control Manager in 2021, Curtis was with the SBA for over 23 years, spending three years of his tenure serving as Lead Loan Officer in the SBA’s Hazard, KY office. His responsibilities there included reviewing loans for second approval and serving as a subject matter expert on policies and procedures for the SBA Loan Guaranty Processing Center, as well as several years providing insights on technicalities while in 7(a) Questions. During his career, Curtis also gained 20 years of operations management experience at two commercial businesses.

Curtis is a graduate of Morehead State University and holds an MBA degree with a focus on management and a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics.
